NEWSLETTER Summer 2015
Dear Parents / Guardian
Here is an update on what’s been happening in Eglish NS since Easter.
SACRAMENTS: Congratulations to Kate, Alana, Katie and Mary who received their Confirmation on May 14th and to Emma, Peter and Andrew who received their First Holy Communion on May 2nd.
‘Join Our Boys’ Charity fundraiser: On May 1st we held a ‘Wear Orange’ Day to support the ‘Join Our Boys’ Charity. In-keeping with the Charity’s motto ‘Keep Moving, keep Marching’, we walked through the woods on that day taking note of the beautiful bluebells.
Erasmus Plus: We had our first Mobility trip to our partner school in Cobisa, Spain from May 10th – 16th. 7 students, 3 parents and 2 teachers travelled. It was a wonderful cultural and educational trip where our students had the opportunity to work collaboratively with children from our other partner countries: Finland, Spain, Italy, UK, Poland, Romania. Many thanks to Mrs. Mulry for the on-going huge amount of work she is doing in coordinating this project.
AcTive School’s Week: We held our annual ‘Active School’s Week’ from May 18th – 22nd. Many thanks to Ms. Rourke for organising it and to all the staff who went the extra mile to ensure students were very active and had the opportunity to make and sample a variety of different healthy treats.
‘Write a Book and Scríobh Leabhar’: Well Done to all of our students who took part in ‘Write a Book’ and ‘Scríobh Leabhar’ projects. Well Done to our award winning Authors: Abtai, Rachel, Emma, Chloe, Daniel, Neil, Laura, Katie who received their awards in the Radisson Hotel in Galway in May.
‘Discover primary science awards’: Our school received the ‘Discover Primary Science Award’ this year for excellence in STEM subjects, (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). To celebrate this award, we held a ‘Mad Scientists’ Day’ on June 5th during which our students amazed us with their many creative projects. Thank you to Mrs. Hussey for leading this initiative.
Fundraising: Many thanks to TESCOs who sent us a cheque for €356.55 , money raised through their ‘Supporting Local Groups’ initiative.
Sporting achievements: Congratulation to Katie Fitzgerald, 6th Class who represented Galway in the Cumann na mBunscoil mini-exhibition games in football in Pearse Stadium on Sunday 14th of June.
Please be reminded, your child’s happiness and all-round educational development is our priority here in Eglish School. If you have any concerns in relation to this, please do not hesitate to let us know. To ensure that these concerns can be dealt with efficiently and in a dignified manner, please follow the steps as outlined in the Complaints Procedure Policy, a copy of which was sent home in September.
Many thanks for your support and ongoing cooperation
Wishing you an enjoyable Summer.
