EGLISH NATIONAL SCHOOL SUPERVISION POLICY

OFFICIAL SCHOOL TIME: START @ 9.20 A.M.

FINISH @ 3.00 P.M.

The school will be open to receive pupils at 9.10 a.m. No responsibility is accepted by the school for pupils arriving before this time.

On arriving, pupils will assemble in the classroom of the teacher who opens the school.

The teacher on supervision duty will supervise the pupils from 9.10am to 9.20am. Pupils will then proceed to their relevant classrooms.

BREAKTIMES: MORNING: 11.00 - 11.10 AM

LUNCHTIME: 12.30 - 1.00 PM

Teachers supervise breaks on a daily basis. A Rota will be organised by the Principal Teacher, and a copy will be displayed in each classroom.

If weather is deemed unsuitable to allow pupils outdoors at break times, the pupils will gather in one classroom and have their lunch and watch a video. The teacher on duty will supervise the children.

The principal/deputy principal/special duties teacher will decide if pupils should remain in doors or not.

The teacher on supervision will carry a Yard Book and a whistle. Any serious misbehaviour on yard will be entered in the yard book. Minor misbehaviour will be dealt with by the teacher on duty. Pupils must remain within sight of the teacher on duty at all times, and must respond immediately to the whistle or bell.

Pupils are required to obey the teacher

on supervision at all times, and requires permission from that teacher to enter the classrooms or toilets during breaks.

The teacher on supervision duty will report any breaches of the Code of Discipline & Behaviour during breaks to the relevant class teacher, or, in serious cases, to the principal.

After School: Classes finish at 3.00 P.M. each day. Pupils will remain inside the school gates (weather permitting)/shed until collected. All children must be collected by 3.15 P.M.

The exceptions to the above are Junior and Senior Infant Pupils, whose school day finishes at 2.00 P.M. each day. All infant pupils must be collected by 2.15 P.M.

After-School Activities:

All matters of discipline are to be dealt with by the member of staff supervising a particular after-school activity, organised in school or on the school grounds.
